An interactive time-sharing operating system invented in 1969 by Ken Thompson
after Bell Labs left the Multics project, originally so he could play
games on his scavenged PDP-7. Dennis Ritchie, the inventor of C, is
considered a co-author of the system. By 1991, Unix had become
the most widely used multiuser general-purpose operating system
in the world. Many people consider this the most important victory
yet of hackerdom over industry opposition.

- Debian Debian is a free operating system (OS) for
your computer. An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities

you to participate too!
The Ubuntu community is built on the ideas enshrined in the Ubuntu Philosophy:
that software should be available free of charge, that software tools should
be usable by people in their local language and despite any disabilities, and
that people should have the freedom to customise and alter their software in
whatever way they see fit.

- GRML -- grml is a bootable CD (Live-CD) originally based on Knoppix and Debian. grml
includes a collection of GNU/Linux software especially for users of texttools
and system administrators. grml provides automatic hardware detection. You can
use grml for example as a rescue system, for analyzing systems/networks or as
a working environment. It is not necessary to install anything to a harddisk,
you don't even need a harddisk to run it. Due to on-the-fly decompression grml
includes about 2.1 GiB of software and documentation on the CD. As grml is an
open source project you don't have to pay anything to use grm.
