Brief information about The program "School ecological initiative"

The ecological movement "Gatchina - Gatchina region - St-Petersburg - Kronshtadt" was formed in 1991. It is nongovernment organisation, created by the scientists, experts, teachers and schoolchildren for realisation of the idea of safety life in concordance with nature. For the best solution of the ecological problems of the region, the movement is realising the education program "School Ecological Initiative" under the motto "Ecology. Safety. Life." A number of volunteers involved in the program is about 200 specialists in wide spectrum of science and education.

For the period from 1991 year following works were done:

Scientific - practical conferences for the experts on various themes under the program and four International conferences (1991, 1992, 1993, 1994) were carried out;

Scientific - practical conferences of schoolchildren and inhabitants of the region were carried out (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005) to provide the information about sources of danger in the region and information about ways of survival in extreme situations, elemental and man-made;

Number of participants of each conference was about 100-150.

Competitions and Olympic games for pupils on the various themes of the program were organised (1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005);

Thirteen summer ecological camps for schoolchildren were carried out (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005), where pupils had made numerous field researches of radiate, chemical, biological and other sorts of impurities in water, air, soil, foodstuffs and had studied modern methods of the ecological monitoring. The conclusions concerning ecological state of our region were made and ways were proposed how it may be improved. The number of schoolchildren was about 60 in each camp. They had possibilities to know more about modern methods of ecological control, to study devices for that purposes and to work with them.

• "APELL" (Casualties on the industrial objects ) - guidance for readiness for extreme situations at the local level, Gatchina, 1994;
• "Ecology. Safety. Life", issue 1 - works, made by schoolchildren in the summer camp, Gatchina, 1995:

• "Ecology. Safety. Life", issue 3 - works of schoolchildren, results of 1996 camp. Gatchina 1996.
• "Ecology. Safety. Life", issue 4 - reports of teachers, Gatchina, 1997.
• "Ecology. Safety. Life", issue 5 - works of schoolchildren, results of 1997. Gatchina 1997.
• "Ecology. Safety. Life", issue 6 - reports of teachers, Gatchina, 1997.
• "Ecology. Safety. Life", issue 7 - works of schoolchildren, results of 1998. Gatchina 1998.

The draw of each issue was about 200 exemplars. In these books one can find all about ecological state in the Gatchina region, about health of inhabitants and the possible ways to control and improve this state.
