Program "School ecological initiative" Ecological movement "Gatchina—Gatchina region—St-Petersburg—Kronshtadt"

Our aims are the Ecological education of the schoolchildren and the teachers, independent ecological control of the Gatchina city and Gatchina region.

There are some objects of potential danger in our region:

• There is the research nuclear reactor in the St.Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute.
• There are four reactors of Chernobyl type in the Leningrad Nuclear Electric Plant. It is situated in the Sosnovyi Bor town, about 40 kilometers from the Gatchina city.
• In the Gatchina city and Gatchina region the various objects of an industry are situated, where the radioactive substances are used for the purposes of the control. Some objects may be sources of chemical pollution.

Since 1991 volunteers from ten schools of our city and region (the schoolchildren and the teachers) carry out the public (independent) control of the environment, study radiation, chemical, biological and other sources of potential danger.

Since 1993 each summer the ecological camp for schoolchildren are carried out. The results of works of the schoolchildren and the teachers in the summer camps are published in the books "Ecology. Safety. Life".

In 1994 schoolchildren and teachers from Gatchina district joined to the Movement and take part in this work actively.

In 2000 schoolchildren and teachers from Kronshtadt joined to the Movement. The Ecology Movement has become named "Gatchina—Gatchina region—St.-Petersburg—Kronshtadt".

More than 300 men participate in the Movement activity annually.
