"MuSun Experiment. Gas System."

The ARC group is providing high sensitivity analysis of deuterium gas since its purity is crucial for the experiments of the MuSun project. The N2 and O2 contaminants of less than 10-9 volume fraction have to be detected. This task demands an additional investigation of adsorption properties of several materials in search of those which are able to selectively bind individual molecules of contaminants in large volumes of gas and concentrate them to the levels detectable by chromatography. The instrument allowing such investigation was recently designed and modeled (see Photo 2.) and now is being tuned up and tested in our laboratory. New methods of analysis of the impurities are also being developed.
The ARC group is also working on determination of isotopic content of hydrogen and its ortho-para molecular forms.

In future we are planning to revive the work on studying and developing methods of preparation of enriched radioactive isotopes for medical applications. This work will be based on our earlier research on coordination compounds of phtalocyanine which were first synthesized at PNPI.
