MLHEP School

MLHEP Summer School, August 27 - 30, 2015, St. Petersburg - a satellite event of the LHCP2015 Conference

Machine Learning in High Energy Physics (MLHEP) is intended to cover the relatively fresh area of data analysis and computational research that has started to emerge in High Energy Physics. It is known by several names including “Multivariate Analysis”, “Neural Networks”, “Classification/Clusterization techniques”. In more generic terms, these techniques belong to the field of “Machine Learning”, which is an area that is based on research performed in Statistics and has received a lot of attention from the Data Science community.

There are plenty of essential problems in High energy Physics that can be solved using Machine Learning methods. These vary from online data filtering and reconstruction to offline data analysis.

Students of the school will receive a theoretical and practical introduction to this new field and will be able to apply their acquired knowledge to solve their own problems.

The MLHEP school is a satellite event to the LHCP2015 conference, so its dates and venue are well-aligned with the conference.
Expected number of students at the school is 40-50 people (separated equally between Introductory and Advanced tracks).
Details and registration at: http://www.hse.ru/mlhep2015/

Outreach Event

The LHCP2015 Outreach event will be held on September 6, Sunday. Details will be announced later.

About St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg is Russia's second largest city, with a population of 5 million perched at the eastern tip of the Baltic Sea and the Neva River… But ask anybody in Russia what they think about St. Petersburg and you'll have the impression it's the cultural capital of the country.

For St. Petersburg citizens it is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places on the Earth. Any building in the large historic center, threaded with canals dotted with baroque bridges, can be considered an attraction — and indeed, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Most people have a very romantic image of St. Petersburg: a beautiful city of channels and impressive architecture, great historical heritage and vibrant cultural life, home for many famous artists and poets, a symbol of Russia on the Baltic sea.

This city is a really inspiring place, many great Russian writers, poets, dancers started to work here. Even nowadays people in St. Petersburg are considered to be a bit more intelligent, smart and polite.

There are some whole countries who probably can't boast as many great sights as this one city. From the priceless treasures of the world-famous Hermitage to the palaces and art of the Russian Museum there's a lot of culture to be enjoyed. Many visitors also associate the city with the October Revolution and memories of old Leningrad, and especially the terrible siege of World War II, still linger on in the city's many monuments and parks.

And the Conference participants will be able to appreciate the charm of St. Petersburg during its romantic autumn days, with its raised bridges and shining gilded spires and domes of its palaces and cathedrals.

Welcome to St.Petersburg!

The Third Annual Large Hadron Collider Physics Conference

St. Petersburg, Russia on August 31 – September 5, 2015.

The LHCP2015 conference is the major international conference of the experimental collaborations at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, Geneva. This conference is a result of a recent merger of two international conferences: "Physics at Large Hadron Collider" and "Hadron Collider Physics Symposium". The first two conferences in this series were held in Barcelona, May 2013 (LHCP2013) and in New York City, June 2014 (LHCP2014).

The program was devoted to a review of the latest experimental and theoretical results on hadron collider physics, especially the results of the new LHC Run 2, and a discussions on the outlook for the coming years. The conference provided a lively discussion between experimenters and theorists on topics such as the Standard Model Physics and Beyond, the Higgs Boson, Supersymmetry and Heavy Ion Physics and planning for the high luminosity upgrades during the plenary talks, parallel and poster sessions.

The LHCP2015 conference was hosted by:

National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute" (NRC KI)
Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (PNPI NRC KI)
High Energy Physics Institute (IHEP NRC KI)
Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics (ITEP NRC KI)
Joint Institute of Nuclear Research (JINR)
